INSPECTOR GENERAL (Title 5)

As a INSPECTOR GENERAL (Title 5), GS-1801-12, you will serve as the primary advisor to the wing commander with responsibility to plan, direct, and manage IG programs. Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and ensure the best interest of the Air Force and Airmen needs are met. Recommend measures and assist senior military and civilian leadership including wing and unit commanders in preventing, detecting, and correcting Fraud, Waste, and Abuse, and gross mismanagement. Develop and execute a recurring education program to ensure wing members are aware of and understand their rights and responsibilities regarding IG Complaints Resolution and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse programs through base web sites, bulletins, orientations, meetings, and work area visits. Ensure the concerns of employees, family members, and retirees are addressed through objective fact finding. Hear a variety of IG complaints, inquiries, and/or suggestions at any time from military members, civilians, and dependents. Establish policies and procedures for conducting complex complain analyses from initial receipt of complaint through case completion/closure. Establish methodologies for accomplishing difficult IG investigations when complaint analysis determines an investigation is warranted. Evaluate or frame allegations including conducting interviews, fact-finding, and research of sufficient detail to substantiate or non-substantiated allegations of violations of laws, regulations, standards, or policies. Manage inspections/exercises, self-assessment, and staff assistance visits, and ensure detailed and comprehensive reports with any corrective action taken are presented to the Wing Commander. Assess unit compliance with established directives and its ability to execute its assigned mission, leadership effectiveness, management performance, and aspects of unit culture and command climate. Establish, develop, and maintain effective working relationships with all organizations, commanders, senior military, and civilian leadership. Enhance openness and approachability by conducting or participating in official public meetings, newcomers' sessions, commander's calls, and staff meetings. Meet with key customers and coordinating officials to assess customer satisfaction, explain organizational policy and procedures, and resolve problems that arise. Provide and/or ensure that subordinates provide customer guidance and training. Evaluate reports by analyzing facts and performing appropriate research and prepare detailed responses. Plan, direct, and manage the activities of an organization's IG office, ensuring that all programs comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet the needs of the organization. Research, interpret, analyze, and apply guidelines, policies, and regulations related to covered IG programs. Plan and schedule work in a manner that promotes a smooth flow and even distribution. Establish metrics and utilize analysis systems to ensure actions are timely and reviewed at critical points. This is NOT an all-inclusive list of duties. GENERAL

Experience:
GS-12 Level - Musthave one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, GS-11, in the Federal service in the normal line of progression for the occupation, INSPECTOR GENERAL. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
ensuring compliance with agency policies, practices, and regulations; provide policy, guidance, oversight, and direction for wing level inspection program; developing and executing a recurring education program to ensure wing members are aware of and understand their rights and responsibilities regarding IG complaints resolution programs; planning, coordinating, initiating, and directing actions necessary to resolve complaints; manage inspections, exercises, self-assessment, and staff visits; establishing, developing, and maintain effective working relationships with all organizations and commanders; and developing goals and objectives that integrate IG programs with DoD, AF, NGB, and State objectives. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
